Meet the Author - Deepak N. Kotecha

Jai Shri Krishna!

I strive to be a a devout Sanatani Hindu (and a vegetarian) without being fanatical, dogmatic or radical. I have always believed that one must practice what one preaches, and that is my daily attempt at my commitment. As a father, I find that this goes double around my young and highly impressionable children. I am an Optometrist by training, and have Therapeutic and Optometric Glaucoma Specialist qualifications. I am in private practice in the United States, providing pediatric and family eye and vision care.

The book series hindusAwake! is inspired by my little ones. They represent a middle-aged father’s rambling conversation (albeit one-sided) with his young children in their tender baal-avastha. It is an on-going attempt to impart what little I may know about Hinduism and the wonderful foundation it makes for building individual spirituality on. The emphasis is on spirituality and attempting to explain the ‘why’ rather than the ‘what,’ with the single goal of identifying the very reason for our existence as a human being. It is theoretically far easier to see how we get back to our source if we know how we got here in the first place. And that, my friends, is what I believe our goal as Humans should be - to find our way back to our maker.

These conversations were meant to be private between my children and us, their parents. My wife, once having read some of these notes, insisted on setting these thoughts out in a more organized fashion. When she had finished reading through them she insisted that we make them available to other family members as they may help them as well. Thus came about this series. These conversations have been loosely threaded together and are presented in their natural form with no professional editing as the emphasis is on their honest and straightforward delivery to my children and any interested person seeking answers to timeless questions. I hope they help. You decide if they do. If they help even one person look at Shyam Sunder in a new perspective, we will have considered our efforts worthwhile.

Regardless of whether you concur or differ with our opinions, remember one is only a Hindu by thought and deed, and not by birth.
